"How can I build muscle and burn fat?"
I stared at myself deep into the mirror. What went wrong?
Just a few years earlier, I was playing college baseball. As you might expect, I had an athlete's body with a single digit body fat percentage.
Now what stared back at me wasn't an athlete. It was a mess... A big, fat mess.
In the four years since graduating, so much changed. I married my college girlfriend, I focused intensely on my career, and we welcomed our first dog into the house. And now? We were talking about having kids.
Everything around me was changing at warp speed, and, along with it, so did my weight... and clearly not for the better.
Earlier that day I stepped on a scale for the first time in years. I knew I was gaining weight. After all, my pants were now a size 44. However, the number on the scale blew me away. Over 304 pounds. That was in 2003.
Fast forward to today. I still focus intensely on my career and I'm still happily married. We've also added another dog and 2 beautiful little boys. That makes the days (and nights) as hectic as ever.
Even with those life changes, when I stepped on the scale today, I weighed in at 213 pounds. For the record, I usually weigh around 210 depending on whether I am in a muscle building or fat burning cycle.
Either way, my weight isn't anywhere near the 304 pounds of mush that stared back at me from the mirror.
I learned to build muscle and burn fat. I've earned my athletic body back. And just the other day, I completed an 11.5 mile Tough Mudder obstacle course. I'm in the best shape of my life. I am healthier, stronger, and I have tons of energy. Do you want to know how did it?
I came to this conclusion...
What does that mean? Great question.
