Jerry Loses 31 Pounds?

Whoa! 31 pounds in only one week for Jerry, the oldest contestant on any Biggest Loser program! But is that a record? It sure seems like it should be, right? WRONG! Jerry finishes a close second to the Biggest One Week Loser - "Big Wal."

Vladimir "Big Wal" Milberg lost and astounding 34.1 pounds (15.5 kilograms) during the first weigh in on season 1 of The Biggest Loser Austrailia.

Obviously that type of momentum is hard to keep going -
during the next week, he "only" lost 8.1 pounds (3.7 kilorgrams). For the show, "Big Wal" lost 146 total pounds(66.3kg), or 37.52% of his total starting weight. That means he lost almost a full quarter of his total weight loss in the first week!

So, what is the lesson to be learned here? When starting a weight loss program you can drop weight quickly. Keep in mind, however, that a large portion of the initial weight loss is from fluids and some muscle. Be prepared for the numbers to get smaller as you progress.!

Also, remember that focusing on weight alone won't show you whether you are losing fluid, muscle or body fat, and you should supplement your weight with other measures such as body fat percentage.!

This is true in my own personal experience as well. I find that the first 5 to 10 pounds when I start a fat loss program is easy, but then the fat loss slows down considerably.!

We will see how Jerry does next week!
