Diet fitness goal setting is extremely important for those looking to build muscle and burn fat.

Most of us have only a vague idea about our diet and fitness goals. Often, we believe that setting a goal means setting ourselves up for disappointment if our fitness goals are not achieved.

On the other hand, there is something empowering in making (and sticking to) a specific, action-oriented diet fitness goal setting plan to build muscle and burn fat.

Setting a realistic and measurable goals is often the key difference in considering doing something and actually going out and doing something in the time period you want to archive your new level of fitness.

SMART Fitness Goals

The key to reaching your goals is to make sure that your goals are SMART. But what do we mean when we say to set SMART goals? We mean that you goals should be Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Realistic and Time-bound.

These types of goals often lend them selves to specific actions and steps we can take to reach them. Thinking about the actions we need to take in achieving our goals is something tends to focus our mind on performance. That is the power of setting fitness goals the SMART way. We focus our mind on actions that lead to performance and achievement.

Fitness Goal Setting: Actions Lead Us To Countermeasures

The actions we plan to take receive support from countermeasures in the business world. Countermeasures are even more specific things you can do to achieve your planned action. For example, if a business wanted to reduce copy paper costs as an action to be more profitable, a countermeasure may be to a double-sided printing process to reduce paper costs. In the same way, if we wanted to burn fat, and an action were to reduce our calorie intake, a countermeasure may be to eliminate sugary drinks from our diet.

By planning our actions with countermeasures, we can more specifically focus our plan to reach our goals, rather than the more common approach to goal setting and action planning, which is to simply think about possibly, maybe getting around to it tomorrow sometime. By being SMART, we focus our mind and prepare ourselves to reach our goal. The path is laid out in front of us though our activities and countermeasures.

Actively Plan Activities to Gain Muscle and Lose Fat

Focusing on actions and countermeasures also helps us make sure that our diet fitness goal setting to build muscle and burn fat is realistic. You start to realize how many calories are in a soda. Are there as many as you thought? Are there more? Is your goal realistic, based on this new data and information? If you have never made and action plan to support your fitness goals before, you can begin to see how setting a goal means thinking about the actions and countermeasures that you will need to take to succeed and make the changes in your body that you want to make.
