Where do I start !?!

by Michael
(Australia NSW)

Hi everyone,

A little about me
Im 24yrs old
Male
6'2"
128kg

And I don't know where to start, can someone point me in a direction of:

-Eating Plans
-Work out Plans (to lose fat AND build muscle)

I own a weight bench, dumb bells, eliptical trainer, and i have an empty cupboard.

I really want to lose weight not just to look good, but so i don't end up dying at 50 years old of a heart attack.

Someone please give me an idea of what to do or where to go, thankyou so very much...

Some suggestions...
by: Brandon

Hey, I saw your post and decided to respond to it because I used to be a little overweight (but not very) and I turned my body around from being a big stomach to a semi-muscular build with only about 15% body fat percentage.

What I did was at first I lost weight (this was over many years, but you can do this fast if you want). Losing weight is actually really easy I found. If you go from eating bad food and never doing cardio to eating decent and doing some cardio, your body will respond very quickly by dropping the weight, because it is such a major change in your habits. I started to play tennis (I recommend doing something fun for cardio, like a sport, instead of just going on the treadmill) and I ate less calories (I just stopped eating as much basically) and I tried to eat fairly healthy (grilled chicken, lean beef, vegetables, fruit).

The most important thing is that you take in less calories, that is how you will lose weight. Mix that with cardio and you will see results fast. Just stay with it, it may take a month or two to see significant results. As far as building muscle, this can be done after you lose weight or when you are trying to lose weight, either way will work.

My lifting routine is full body workout at once, then 2 days rest, then full body workout again. This way you get a good rest in, and then can go at it again. The key is to work hard, you should be sore the next day after you lift, if you aren't you aren't working hard enough. With a weight bench and dumbbell you can do a lot, you can do flat bench, incline bench, flys, kickbacks, curls, hammer curls, military, and probably more.

Try it out and don't give up.

Where you start often doesn't matter...
by: John

Often, it doesn't matter where you start exactly, only that you start.

Start moving, take walks in your spare time. Start reading nutrition labels on food to get a better understanding of what and how much you are eating.

As you know, this is an excellent site with tons of free information, so start by reading some of those recommended articles.

In the end though, just start. You will find the methods that work best for you to burn fat.

Just remember to let us know how you are doing, and we will lend our support.
