For people who are on the lower end of their optimum weight, a diet high in protein, healthy carbs and fats can assist in gaining weight. Aim for about 2200 calories per day and try eating several medium meals and a few snacks. Foods such as chicken, turkey, fish, tofu, eggs and dairy (low fat is best) are good protein sources. Healthy fats are found in foods like cold water fish, olive oil, flax seed, nuts. Add these foods to plenty of vegetables and fruits, plus whole grains. If you can follow this plan, you will gain healthy weight. Resistance (weight lifting) exercises will also help build the muscle mass.
