Is it detrimental to mix whey protein powder with skim milk or 1% milk instead of water?

by ED
(Harlingen, TX)

I've head that you should not mix protein poweder with any kind of milk, only with water, juice, or gatorade type liquids. However, it tastes much betterwith milk. Does the lactose in the milk counter the muscle buiding effects of the whey?

2% Milk
by: Anonymous

When your using Protein powder. You are allowed to use, i believe that it is 2% milk. Only why you use 2% milk is because it gets to you body a lot faster then water does. It just takes longer with water cause you have to drink a lot of water so it can be passed through your system but with milk it goes right into your system a lot faster.. When i was using that, I was pretty big. It does taste a lot better but its up to you.. I rather have it with milk cause it don't taste like chock like water does.

No - Milk is Fine
by: The Middle Manager

In fact, I mix mine with milk. In fact, whey protein itself is a dairy protein that comes from cow's milk.

I tend to agree, that it does taste much better with milk, and as I mentioned, I mix whey protein with milk, especially when in a musle building cycle. You have to be aware of the extra calories that come with the milk, however, and as a result, when cutting calories to burn fat, I use water instead.
