Go to fitday.com there you can enter weight your normal activity level during the day - ie desk job little movement then that will set your base burn for the day given your weight. Whatever you add after that will be extra burn like cardio etc. If you are watching your calories then you can log it here too. In order to lose 3#'s per/wk you need to burn 1500 calories per day. So, say you eat 1500 calories then your overall burn for the day(including base & extras) will have to be 3000 total. Great thing this site is free and super easy to use! Good luck. I followed this principle and the first week I lost 4#s!

3500 Calories in one pound of fat by: Anonymous
There are 3500 calories in one pound of fat. An average person needs to eat about 2000 calories per day just to maintain their weight. If you cut your food intake to 1500 calories per day and add aerobic exercise, enough to burn 1000 calories per day - say 90 minutes of kickboxing, or an hour of some high energy activity - then you could technically lose 3 pounds per week

Calories by: Anonymous
i eat about 1,150 calories a day and in a pound of body fat there is 3,500 calories. you burn calories just from brething or getting up to walk. if you are skinny like 125 pounds then you would have to walk more miles to burn more calories. if you are heavier you get to walk less miles to burn calories. i suggest cutting down your calorie intake and exercise more than what you burned. EX: say you ate 2,000 calories if you wanted to lose weight you would have to burn more than 2,000 calories. like 2,500.
