How do I calculate my percentage of weight lost?

by Jen
(Lebanon, PA)

For instance, If I am 200 pounds, and lose 10 pounds, I know that is 5% of weight that I lost, since that is an easy number to figure out. But what calculation must I use to figure out the percentage of weight lost.....

Lbs Lost DIVIDED BY Start Weight
by: susy

The method I use:

The amount of weight lost (10#) divided by starting weight (200#) = 0.05

10 / 200 = 5%

Sounds Like You Have It

Jen, unless I am misunderstanding your question, you are calculating it correctly already. If you are 200 pounds, and you lose 10, you lost 5% of your total body weight.

Now, if you want to keep track of total percentage lost, use

1 - (current weight/starting weight).

So if you lost another 10 pounds, then you do

1 - (180/200) = 10%
